The City of Grand Rapids, the Michigan Department of Transportation, and the Grand Rapids Downtown Development Authority are prepared to introduce a pilot project to improve Division Avenue, from Wealthy to Michigan Streets. The project would improve driver convenience and traffic safety by introducing a center turn lane through the corridor. In some areas this will involve reductions in the number of through-lanes.

The pilot project will be studied for one year to help determine the benefits to motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit patrons in the corridor. A determination will be made at that time as to whether the modification should become permanent, be modified, or returned to the original design.

Staff has scheduled two public meetings to discuss the purposes of the project and the timing for implementation and evaluation, and to answer any questions that you might have.
