Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. today postponed the opening night of the Movies in the Park 2017 summer series. The decision was made to allow additional time for new sod recently installed in Ah-Nab-Awen Park to fully take root. The movies - Zootopia and Star Trek - will now play on Friday, July 28, 2017.

The new sod comes as construction wraps on a series of improvements in Ah-Nab-Awen Park north of Gillette Bridge. The work included raising the height of the grassy berm to improve flood protection for the Westside and widening certain trail segments to improve accessibility to the park.

Work recently begun on the south side of Ah-Nab-Awen Park - south of Gillette Bridge - will not affect future Movies in the Park events.

Movies in the Park will now kick off June 16 with Willy Wonka & Pan's Labyrinth in Ah-Nab-Awen Park. Click here for more details.
