Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. (DGRI) today praised the Kent County Road Commission (KCRC) decision to purchase property for the potential relocation of the KCRC's Central Complex, which sits on 15 acres of prime land on the west bank of the Grand River immediately north of Downtown Grand Rapids.
The GR Forward community plan identified the location as one of more than two dozen "opportunity sites" along the urban riverfront where strategic investments can simultaneously expand public access and recreation opportunities, enhance flood protection and promote responsible development opportunities. The property also presents potential for demonstrating innovative strategies to improve water quality of Indian Mill Creek.
"Our community aspires to build a beautiful and active waterfront city," said DGRI Chief Outcomes Officer Andy Guy. "We're elated and sincerely thankful for the County's commitment to pursue and secure options that strengthen our community's position to leverage the Grand River as a distinct regional amenity that draws more people, catalyzes new investment and delivers a truly unique outdoor adventure experience not usually available in urban places."
